Led by CEO & founder Michael O’Neil, 12 company members of GetWellNetwork completed The Nation’s Triathlon to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) on Sunday 11 September. As part of LLS’s Corporate Team In Training program, employees trained together and raised more than US$36,000 for LLS.
“We are honoured to support the efforts of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,” said O’Neil. “The Team In Training program has been a terrific catalyst for GetWellNetwork’s efforts to promote employee health, teamwork and contributing to something much larger than ourselves. To complete an event of endurance while making a difference in the lives of cancer patients has been energizing and inspiring for our entire staff.”
O’Neil, a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor, led all Team In Training participants nationally, raising US$20,000 in memory of Justin Thorton, a friend’s son who lost his 5-year battle to leukemia earlier this year.
“We would like to congratulate GetWellNetwork on completing The Nation’s Triathlon, and thank them for their support of the LLS mission,” said Gabrielle Urquhart, National Capital Area Chapter Executive Director. “They have been a tremendous partner for us in the Washington DC area and we look forward to continued success over the coming years.”
Nearly 700 Team In Training participants raised US$2.7 million through The Nation’s Triathlon in 2011, bringing the total raised through the four-year partnership to US$11 million. This makes the Nations Tri one of the US nation’s largest non-profit endurance training programs. Participants raise funds for the one million Americans living with blood cancer in exchange for certified coaching and weekly group trainings to complete an endurance event.
