Global financial institution ING has been announced as the title sponsor of the 2011 KiDS ROCK Events – a running series scheduled to kick-off in New Orleans on 12 February 2011.
Staggering statistics indicate that a generation of kids in the US risk becoming the first to see a shorter life expectancy than their parents. ING is taking steps to change their future by partnering with the Competitor Group Inc, to take title sponsorship of seven KiDS ROCK events across the US.
The series will have an estimated 17,000 kids in US school grades K-7 participating and hopefully developing a love of running and fitness through their experience. KiDS ROCK is a nationwide kids’ running series held in conjunction with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.
In 2011, ING will title KiDS ROCK events in New Orleans, Dallas, Nashville, San Diego, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Antonio, making it one of the largest kids’ running series that will bring awareness to childhood obesity and serve as a solution for many kids who face this epidemic.
ING KiDS Rock is supported by ING Run For Something Better, ING’s charity that champions running and fitness programs in schools across the US.
"We’re extremely proud to be a part of an event that is really helping to solve a major crisis facing our country’s children," said Rhonda Mims, President of the ING Foundation and Senior Vice President of ING’s Office of Corporate Responsibility and Multicultural Affairs.
"Through our charity, ING Run For Something Better, and our partnership with KiDS ROCK, we are expanding ING’s efforts to combat childhood obesity and making a change that we hope lasts a lifetime for these kids."
ING KiDS ROCK also aligns with First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, and the program is teaming up with The President’s Challenge to reach as many kids as possible across the US.
The President’s Challenge promotes physical activity that is fun and that you can do on your own, with friends or with family members. Participants in ING KiDS ROCK can earn awards for staying active and track progress along with other kids across the country.
