The new 2012 Ironman US Championship in New York has rapidly sold out. The main batch of general registration tickets went in a lightning fast 11 minutes! Although, there are still Ironman Foundation slots available. The race, which will be the first-ever Ironman competition to be held in the New York City/New Jersey metropolitan region, will take place on August 11, 2012.
There will be approximately 2,500 slots overall available for the inaugural race.
The general entry fee for the race is US$895. With general registration now full, entry through The Ironman Foundation is available at US$1,500 with the additional US$605 going directly to The Ironman Foundation, the charitable arm of World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
Since its inception in 2003, the Ironman Foundation has donated close to US$10 million to charitable causes around the globe. A portion of the foundation’s proceeds will be directed back to causes in the greater NYC/NJ metropolitan area. Additionally, for the first time ever, The Ironman Foundation is partnering with more than 20 non-profit groups who will use their participation in the Ironman US Championship as a fundraising vehicle.

“We encourage everyone to take part in the Ironman experience with the world’s most iconic skyline as the backdrop. The race will be a great opportunity for all athletes, particularly New Yorkers who will get to compete on their home turf.”
The 140.6-mile race will take place in parts of both New York City and New Jersey, making it the most metropolitan environment ever to host an Ironman. The course will include a 2.4-mile swim in the Hudson River; a 112-mile bike ride on the Palisades Parkway in Bergen and Rockland Counties, and a 26.2-mile run beginning in Fort Lee, New Jersey, and finishing in Riverside Park in Manhattan.
Athletes competing in the new annual race can qualify for the 2012 Ironman World Championship, taking place on 13 October 2012 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The 2012 Ironman US Championship will offer 75 age group qualifying slots to Kona, more than any other North American race. Additionally, there will be a prize purse of US$100,000 for distribution among the top professional male and female finishers.
