A new chapter in the history of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) will be written this weekend at the first ITU World Cross Triathlon Championships in Extremadura, Spain. The inaugural elite world titles for men and women consist of a swim, a mountain bike leg and a cross-country run, and some of the best triathletes in the world will be in Spain to compete.
Extremadura is a region in western Spain and it is hosting its first ITU World Championships. In fact it’s an event full of firsts, the first Cross Triathlon world titles from ITU and the first event for ‘The Ring’, the innovative outdoor sports facility with a strong sustainability and environmental focus.
Both the male and female elite races will see athletes battling it out over a 1K swim, a 20K mountain bike ride and a 6K cross country run.
