Berlin will be hosting a TriStar111 triathlon race on 17 July 2011. The race in Germany’s capital of 3.4 million people will be taking place in and around the Tempelhof airport and is expected to attract many triathletes to the unique TriStar format.
The TriStar111 Berlin race will feature the popular distances of 1K of swimming, 100K of cycling and 10K of running.
The 1000m swim will take place in the Spree River at Treptow Park in the east of Berlin and includes swimming around the ‘Island of Youth’ (Insel der Jugend).
The 100K of cycling will lead participants westwards through the city to the former airfields of Tempelhof Airport, which will be circled in five laps. The concluding 10K run will take the triathletes around the airfields one final time – now by foot – and then into the Hasenheide park.
The finish line will be located at Tempelhof airport where once ‘raisin bombers’ (German Rosinenbomber, post war supply planes) and commercial aircraft landed.

TriStar Berlin will be co-organized by SCC Events, an event producer with a long track record of high quality mass participation events. Other events by SCC are the BMW Berlin-Marathon with more than 40,000 participants and 7,000 inline skaters; the Vattenfall Berlin Halfmarathon with more than 28,000 runners; and the Berliner Wasserbetriebe Team-Relay with more than 20,000 contestants.
