UnitedHealthcare backs USA Pro Cycling Challenge

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge continues to build momentum and has announced another national US partner for the inaugural race on 22-28 August. UnitedHealthcare joins previously-announced Quiznos and Smashburger as founding partner companies.

UnitedHealthcare will also serve as a presenting sponsor of the Aspen Snowmass Women’s Pro Stage Race on 22-24 August, as well as Stage 1 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, from Salida to Mt. Crested Butte in the week’s mountain-top finish.

“As one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, UnitedHealthcare is an ideal partner for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and the Aspen Snowmass Women’s Pro Stage Race,” said Beth Soberg, CEO at UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual of Colorado.

“UnitedHealthcare’s support highlights our mission of helping people live healthier lives by promoting the shared values of daily exercise, proper nutrition and teamwork.”

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is expected to be the largest spectator event in Colorado history and one of the largest sporting events ever to take place in the United States. For seven consecutive days, 128 of the world’s top cyclists will race across 518 miles through the majestic Rockies, reaching higher altitudes than they’ve ever had to endure – more than two miles in elevation. The race features Olympians, world champions and Tour de France competitors.

The Aspen Snowmass Women’s Pro Stage Race Presented by UnitedHealthcare is a three-day women’s professional race with a US$10,000 purse prize. The event, developed by two-time National Champion Jessica Phillips, will begin Stage One with a time trial from the base of the Aspen Highlands going to the scenic and iconic Maroon Bells. Stage Two will include a circuit race through the hills of Snowmass Village, while Stage Three will see 70 riders race through the streets of downtown Aspen.

“We are proud to have UnitedHealthcare as a key sponsor for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and the Aspen Snowmass Women’s Pro Stage Race,” said Shawn Hunter, Co-Chairman of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. “UnitedHealthcare is one of the nation’s most respected health and well-being companies, and its support for core values of proper nutrition and daily exercise align perfectly with cycling and these two races.”

As a presenting sponsor of the Aspen Snowmass Women’s Pro Stage Race, the UnitedHealthcare logo will be displayed in all advertising, announcements and media. Each stage winner jersey will feature the sponsor, and the logo will be included in all race numbers and bibs.

The Aspen Snowmass Women’s Pro Stage Race is being put on by Team Ajax Incorporated, a non-profit organization formed to support women’s cycling and athletic pursuits. Proceeds from the race will be used to support young women’s athletic programs in the Aspen Snowmass area.
