USA Triathlon’s 2011 Race Director Symposium reaches new heights

The 2011 USA Triathlon (USAT) Race Director Symposium attracted a record number of attendees, marking the most successful edition of the event to date, as leading event directors gathered in Colorado Springs on 14-15 January to share ideas and find new ways of doing business.

This year’s Race Director Symposium featured 123 attendees, a 24% increase over the event’s previous record total. Additionally, the symposium’s expo space, reception and affiliate sponsor opportunities sold out, creating good value overall during the weekend for all stakeholders.

The expo at this year’s event featured nearly 30 vendors representing many of the top companies in the multisport industry.

"The USA Triathlon Event Services team is proud of the way the race director community is embracing the profession of event organizing and race directing," said USA Triathlon Event Services Director Kathy Matejka.

"The business of race directing is growing more significant with every season of multisport engagement in communities across the nation, so it would reasonably follow that race directors invest in their role, too."

While the 2011 Symposium just concluded, the USA Triathlon Event Services staff have already secured the details for next year’s event. The 2012 USA Triathlon Race Director Symposium will be held on 13-14 January 2012, at Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.

Registration is expected to open in early October 2011. Details will be provided via on-going communications from USA Triathlon – the monthly Race Director Newsletter, USAT’s Race Director Google group and other avenues.

Cheyenne Mountain Resort previously hosted the Race Director Symposium in 2006. Forging this local partnership allows USA Triathlon to support the event with more staff and to continue to welcome the race director family to USA Triathlon’s Colorado home.

"Those who’ve attended over the years continue to tell us there is nothing quite like this conference," added Matejka. "There are sport business gatherings, seminars and the like, but nothing specifically targeting the multisport education, risk management, networking and great relationship-building functionality of the USA Triathlon Race Director Symposium."
