In recent weeks, national governing body Triathlon Ireland has been taking applications for its Vodafone National Series and National Championships. This new run of events in 2012 further cements the commercial partnership between Triathlon Ireland and mobile network operator Vodafone.
Along with the series and championship event applications it receives from race organisers, Triathlon Ireland (TI) notes a number of other criteria that are also looked at. In making its decision on series and championship events, the national governing body reviews factors, such as:
- Geography
- Time in the season
- Only one series race on a weekend
- Ratio of Sprint/Standard/Middle distance races
- Any outstanding fees due to TI
- Number of competitors the race is able to take
- Technical Official report from previous race
- Race entry fee
- Facilities such as showers, change rooms, parking etc
- Post race meals
- Prompt payment of race fees in 2011 and return of documentation & race results to TI
- If a club event, full quota of club members that have attended Technical Official (TO) training and officiated at races in 2011
