Plans for the 2012 XTERRA America Tour are close to completion, as the off-road triathlon series features 70 races in 38 states, two US Territories, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The 2012 XTERRA America Tour as of 6 Jan 2012 runs from March to September 2012. There are also two points-scoring races for 2012 – XTERRA Big Bear in West Virginia and XTERRA Epic Iron Mountain in Arkansas. This year, there are three races scheduled in September that will count towards the 2013 season.
XTERRA’s regular season ends on the last weekend of August in order to crown regional champions and send invitations to the top scorers in each division nationwide with enough time for them to make travel plans to compete at the XTERRA USA Championship in Utah on 22 September.
The XTERRA Guam Championship race opens the 2012 schedule on 10 March. While Guam has offered a points series race since 2006, this is its first year as a full-fledged World Tour stop featuring a US$15,000 pro prize purse and qualifying slots into the XTERRA World Championship for amateurs.
Combined with the XTERRA Philippines Championship on 18 March, and the XTERRA Saipan Championship on 24 March – an early season month-long Asia Tour offers an enticing way to train and race in the warm and beautiful South Pacific.
The XTERRA World Championship in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, is scheduled to take place on 28 October 2012.
