Citing that roughly 15% of race registrants never even make it to the starting line, ACTIVE Network has partnered with Allianz Global Assistance USA to launch ‘Registration Protector’. The new solution aims to give event organizers and participants peace of mind by protecting event registration fees for both parties when participants can’t show up on race day.
“Registering for an event in advance may seem more appealing to a participant if they know that a sprained ankle won’t jeopardize their registration fee,” said Eric McCue, General Manager of Sports at ACTIVE Network.
“For event organizers, Registration Protector solves an important customer service issue by making refunds available to participants without the need for organizers to manage or pay those refunds. Registration Protector is a new benefit to all ACTIVE.com customers who sign up for events online. During registration, participants will be provided with the option to purchase Registration Protector. With Registration Protector, a participant who misses an event for a covered reason such as an injury, illness, job loss, transportation delays, military/family/legal obligations, and more can get their registration fees reimbursed.

“It appears to be a win-win situation for both event organizers and participants,” said Sally Smith of Big Sur Marathon Events. “The covered reasons are very robust, much more so than other plans we’ve looked at. Registration Protector will refund 100% of insured registration costs, subject to certain conditions and limitations, including fees and other related costs up to the maximum coverage amount of US$10,000. This also includes Allianz Global Assistance’s 24/7 service and assistance. Allianz Global Assistance manages all customer service and claims activity, without risk or management resources from event organizers.
