After a successful first outing this year, the international TriStar triathlon series returns to Austria for a second round of TriStar Salzkammergut on Sunday 9 June 2013. Taking place at Lake Attersee in Austria, TriStar Salzkammergut 2013 will be held under the motto ‘Back to Nature’ to reflect the event’s positioning in the idyllic vacation region.
The Upper Austria area will witness TriStar’s popular triathlon distances of 111K and 55.5K. The event organisers expect TriStar Salzkammergut 2013 to draw numerous international athletes. Its attractive side events, including a charity run and the StarKid children’s event, are aimed at providing an experience for the entire family.
According to Star Events, the company behind the TriStar brand, the newest TriStar destination in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Attersee was ranked highly by the participants:
- 71% would reportedly recommend the TriStar Salzkammergut event;
- 98% were satisfied with the commitment of the volunteer helpers; and
- 83% ‘gave the organizers the best grades after the premiere.’
“The opinions of our athletes is extremely important to us,” said Star Events CEO and Chairman Georg Hochegger. “TriStar stands for triathlon at the highest level, both athletically and organizationally. So that makes us very proud of these ratings.”
“That is both praise and incentive for us. We will continue to develop our events and keep an open ear for our starters. That is why we have planned some small changes.”
Based on the experiences of the first year and the athletes’ opinions, there will be a change in the cycling course. There will also be ‘improvements on the organizational side, to establish the event both nationally and internationally.’
“We are already sure of one thing,” said Georg Hochegger. “The cycling course will again be one of the best courses in the Austrian triathlon scene in the coming year. No one should skip it.”
The popular vacation region is already welcoming the triathlon community. The organizers in Upper Austria are actively supported by the local Tourist Board.
“The Lake Attersee-Salzkammergut vacation region is already looking forward to the second edition of the TriStar Salzkammergut,” said Director of Tourism Christian Schirlbauer. “We will go all out to present an optimal event with our local partners. Be there with us again at Lake Attersee!”
Harald Hois, Director of Upper Austria Tourism, is also looking forward to the event at the beginning of June 2013. “After the first successful TriStar triathlon at Lake Attersee in June 2012, we look forward to a continuation of the series in 2013. Upper Austria presents a wide variety of possibilities to sports freaks! Especially the crystal-clear lakes are a paradisical target for water sports, whether it is sailing, diving or surfing – and especially for triathletes.
“The breath-taking mountain and hill landscape around Lake Attersee waits to be discovered by the athletes. We wish much success to all participants!”
The TriStar111 Salzkammergut 2013 starts with a swim in the ‘Spring of Life’, as Lake Attersee is locally known. Then the athletes will ride 100K through the charming, unspoiled and varied nature of the Lake Attersee-Salzkammergut vacation region, before finishing off with a 10K run. The TriStar55.5 Salzkammergut (500m swim, 50K bike and 5K run) is the shortest distance, and most suited for beginner triathletes.
The athletes will have a wonderful view of the lovely scenery in both races. The Salzkammergut region offers crystal-clear lakes and wonderful roads, which are perfect for cycling and go up to 2000m. In addition to the natural beauty of the area, Salzkammergut also offers an ideal location near the cities of Salzburg and Linz.
Because of the closeness to Germany, the TriStar Salzkammergut event is also targeted at the large base of German triathletes.
TriStar Salzkammergut will also be an experience for the entire family. On Friday 3 June, there will be a charity run to benefit a local project. The next day, Saturday, will see the popular children’s race StarKids.
