Ironman Sweden is sold out, with all 1500 slots to the only full Ironman race in Scandinavia now taken up by athletes from a diverse range of countries. 1500 participants is also a new record for the triathlon competitions that have been held in Kalmar since 1994. According to the race organisers, it is the nineteenth consecutive year that overall triathlon participant numbers have increased.
Hot on the heels of unveiling the first ever Ironman 70.3 Haugesund Norway, the city of Kalmar in Sweden joins the Ironman European Tour, hosting the inaugural Ironman Sweden/Kalmar on 18 August 2012 – the first full Ironman race in Scandinavia.
“This confirms the huge interest to participate in an Ironman competition in Scandinavia”, said race organiser Tobias Borger. “It is also a very clear sign that we’ve done well with previous arrangements. People know that you can do a fast time in Kalmar and that you get good service, will experience a family atmosphere and will compete in beautiful surroundings.”
For those athletes who still want to register for the race there is one last chance. As the interest to participate in Ironman Sweden has been so great the organising team has decided to offer up another 50 slots.
“We have recently seen that the race will sell out, so we have within the organization worked hard to solve all the practical and provide additional slots. We want to give everyone who wants the opportunity to participate in the first Ironman Sweden,” added Borger.
“The security of the arrangement is the most important and therefore we will not release more than 50 slots. Those who have not had time to sign up for this year may instead aim for the Ironman Sweden 2013. If you want to race for a shorter distance is also possible to participate in Kalmar Mini Tri on August 16.”
