Ironman UK to close entries in one week

Those looking to race Ironman UK 2013 better be quick, as online entries will close next Wednesday 31 October.

Demand for this world renowned endurance event, which takes place on Sunday 4 August 2013, has never been higher, with the race organisers having to close entries to this sell-out event within a record 7 weeks.

Kevin Stewart, Managing Director of Ironman UK and Ireland said “The response to Ironman UK 2013 has been phenomenal and it is testament to its growing reputation as one of the great races on the Ironman European Tour circuit. We are delighted to be returning to Bolton for the 5th year running and together with the support of Bolton Council look forward to welcoming all the athletes to this town that provides an outstanding atmosphere.”

The event comprises a 2.4 mile swim in Pennington Flash, a 112 mile cycle through the spectacular and challenging Lancashire countryside before finishing with a 26.2 mile looped marathon course in and around Bolton town centre, as thousands of spectators cheer the athletes all the way to the finish line in Victoria Square.

Ironman UK organiser World Endurance UK is delighted to confirm that the event will once again act as a qualifier for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Additionally, together with the support of Bolton Council the event will continue to support the future generation – with its IronKids run event. This attracted a sell-out 1,000 children aged 3 to 15 in 2012. Entry to IronKids 2013 will open on Tuesday 30 October 2012.

Athletes can also combine their racing with making a significant contribution to charity through guaranteed entry slots available from Ironman UK’s Official Charity Scope, with an initial £99 to pay along with a commitment to fund-raise £1,000 for the charity’s great cause. Athletes interested in finding out more about racing for Scope through one of these places should contact events[at]scope.org.uk.
