2012 sees the launch of the new Cornwall Triathlon Series, and wetsuit and swimwear specialist Aqua Sphere has confirmed it is on board as a sponsor. Aqua Sphere joins headline sponsor Giant and other sponsors Cycle Logic Cornwall and sports nutrition brand USN.
The new ten race series in South West England has been created by Carrick Leisure Community Leisure Service in partnership with Triathlon England. (The events are now managed by Carrick Leisure following the recent transfer of the Cornwall Council Leisure Services Department to the Carrick Leisure Trust.)
The Cornwall Triathlon Series will bring together both well-established triathlons and events that are brand new for this year:
- 8 April : Penzance Triathlon – Sprint Distance (Pool)
- 13 May : Liskeard Triathlon – Sprint Distance (Pool)
- 20 May : Marazion Triathlon – Standard Distance/Middle Distance (Open Water)
- 27 May : Helston Triathlon – Sprint Distance (Pool)
- 17 June : Falmouth Triathlon – Sprint Distance (Open Water)
- 22 July : Stithians Lake Open Water Triathlon – Standard Distance (Open Water)
- 2 September : Perranporth Triathlon – Standard Distance (Open Water)
- 9 September : Bodmin Triathlon – Sprint Distance (Pool)
- 30 September : Newquay Triathlon – Standard Distance (Open Water)
- 7 October : Wadebridge Triathlon – Sprint Distance (Pool)
To help support and grow the sport of triathlon there will also be a novice category for the best newcomer to triathlon during the series. Here, a novice is defined as a participant whose first ever triathlon is the first event they enter in the Cornwall Triathlon Series.
