Registrations for TriStar Mallorca 2013 officially open

The third edition of the Balearic triathlon,  TriStar Mallorca, will be held on 14 April 2013 in Portocolom, Mallorca. More than 600 athletes enjoyed the 2012 edition, and 55% of these were foreigners (i.e. non-Spaniards!). The number of participants in 2013 will be limited to 1000.

TriStar Mallorca, an increasingly important race on the international TriStar event circuit, will be one of the first European triathlons of the 2013 season. On 14 April, Portocolom will host the third edition of this successful race with the TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 format. Registration for TriStar Mallorca 2013 is officially open at www.tristarmallorca.com and there will be a limit for the participants: with only the first 1000 athletes able to sign up.

The next Spanish event of the international TriStar Series will be held in Madrid on 23 September 2012, with the Spanish mainland event opting for the TriStar111 and TriStar33.3 formats.

In Mallorca next year, TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 formats will be accompanied by the fun StarKids Duathlon for kids, held at the Portocolom Club Nautic, following the success of its 2012 edition. More alternative features will be announced shortly by the Star Events team.

The beauty of the destination, its attractiveness to athletes as a perfect place to spend a week of early season racing and training, and multiple flight connections to a number of European cities, were some of the reasons why 55% of the athletes in 2012 were foreigners. Also, according to event owner Star Events:

  • 95% of the 600+ participants in 2012 declared after the race that they were ‘satisfied’ with the organization; of these 47% were ‘very satisfied’
  • The male to female ratio in 2012 stood at 85 : 15
  • Of the total field, the 55% of international athletes covered a broad spectrum of countries; these included: Germany (17%), UK (7%), Russia (4%), Estonia (4%)
  • Other countries represented were Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, France, Ireland, Italy, USA, Canada, Sweden, Argentina, Australia, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Israel, Jersey, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Colombia, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Sudan, Svalbard and Venezuela!

Both TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 Mallorca will take athletes on the same courses in 2013. TriStar111 participants will do two loops of each while 55.5 athletes will complete only one. The swim will take place in Portocolom’s harbour. The bike loop rides along a rolling course including the spectacular climb of Sant Salvador, well known by thousands of triathletes and cyclists who visit Mallorca each year, with its 494m height and awesome views towards the island and the southeast coast. The run will take athletes from the old town along the beaches of Portocolom bay before they cross the finish line of TriStar Mallorca.

TheTriStar label is presented by Star Events, the Monaco based company specializing in organizing high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection.
