The summertime playground of Mount Maunganui, in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, will become the 2012-13 season destination for 800 triathletes on Sunday 8 December as the annual Craigs Investment Partners Tinman Triathlon takes place.
This iconic triathlon has been a mainstay on the New Zealand triathlon calendar for over 20 years and is considered to be the event that kick-starts the country’s summer of triathlon. It is also an event that has attracted some of New Zealand’s best triathletes, with past winners including Cameron Brown and Samantha Warriner.
This weekend’s event will be no exception as a classy elite field will line up in the water of Pilot Bay on Sunday morning. Elite athletes will get under way at 08:00 local time, with over 750 age-group athletes following in waves every couple of minutes from 08.04.
Held at Mount Maunganui’s Pilot Bay, entrants will be competing as individuals and in teams over the Olympic Standard Distance, (1500m swim, 40K cycle and 10K run) or the shorter Sprint Distance (750m swim, 20K bike, 5.5K run).
The Sprint Distance team event also doubles as the Craigs Corporate Challenge, which has attracted over 40 team entries in 2012.
Tinman’s title sponsor Craigs Investment Partners is one of New Zealand’s largest investment advisory and management firms, offering personalised investment solutions to private, corporate and institutional clients.
Other event sponsors include: blueseventy, Garmin, and sports nutrition brand Horleys.
