Triathlon Ireland, the national governing body for triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon in Ireland, has selected TrainingPeaks as its new Official Training Software Supplier. Building on a co-operation formed at the end of 2011, and according to the latest agreement between the two parties, Triathlon Ireland’s elite athletes, coaches and junior squad will use TrainingPeaks’ triathlon training log to plan and analyze workouts and nutrition; monitor fitness trends over time; and communicate between coach and athlete.
Triathlon Ireland’s Lead Cycling Coach Tommy Evans said, “TrainingPeaks will be a huge resource for our coaches and athletes, enabling them to analyze and monitor their training based on cutting-edge, scientific research. Our coaches who have been using TrainingPeaks for the past year have been very pleased with the results.”
As part of the agreement, all Triathlon Ireland members will receive a 20% discount on TrainingPeaks Premium Athlete Edition software. Triathlon Ireland coaches will receive 20% off the monthly subscription price to TrainingPeaks coaching software, for the ‘Unlimited Basic Client’ package. This will enable them to coach any number of clients that have a Basic Athlete Edition account.
TrainingPeaks Co-Founder and Chief Evangelist, Dirk Friel noted, “Triathlon is one of the fastest-growing sports in Ireland, and it’s a promising new market for us. TrainingPeaks is honoured and excited to be selected as Triathlon Ireland’s official training software.”
According to the national governing body, triathlon in Ireland has grown from 30 events and fewer than 600 members, to 160 events and approximately 6,500 members in the past five years.
This latest deal for TrainingPeaks with Triathlon Ireland marks another expansion for the online coaching specialist in Europe and follows a recent agreement with British Cycling.
Dave Criswell, Director of Marketing at TrainingPeaks mentioned to triathlonbusiness.com that “In the last several weeks we’ve also had the pleasure of announcing two world class athletes, 3x Ironman World Champion, Craig Alexander, and triathlon Olympic Qualifier Gwen Jorgensen are using TrainingPeaks for their training.
Criswell added, “TrainingPeaks is committed to triathlon and looking forward to helping Triathlon Ireland with their national triathlon pursuits.”
