The competition for places at the 2014 London Triathlon is beginning to heat up as participants have less than one month to enter the iconic event before the 2013 price freeze comes to an end.
The event has already sold out of the Mixed Olympic (Saturday and Sunday), Male Open Olympic (Saturday), Olympic Plus and Olympic Team Relay wave types, has already sold over 75% of general entries. Participants have less than a month to enter before the current price freeze ends on 1 January 2014.
Participants are therefore advised to enter at thelondontriathlon.com as soon as possible to avoid missing out on what will be big year for ‘the world’s largest triathlon’.
The world’s biggest triathlon will take place on 2-3 August 2014 offering a variety of distances to participants with Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic and Olympic Plus waves available for general entry, as well as the option to compete as individuals or as part of a team relay. There is something to suit everyone from elite athletes trying to shave vital seconds off their personal bests, to complete novices taking on a new challenge.
The London Triathlon has seen great diversity amongst entrants for the 2014 event. Currently, 32 countries from 6 different continents will be represented at the Royal London Docklands as participants have registered from as far and wide as South Africa, the USA, Mexico, UAE, South Korea, Singapore, Russia, India, Hong Kong, Canada and Argentina.
Also, a third of UK entries have been from Greater London meaning there will be no shortage of representatives from the nation’s capital.
Next year’s event will also see a variety of ages taking part and a huge number older participants. Entries have been received from triathletes as young as 10 years old ranging all the way up to the grand age of 75. Over 90 participants between the ages of 60 and 75 have also signed up, a greater number than in previous years, showing the London Triathlon remains at the forefront of mass participation events, catering for participants of all ages and experience levels.
The number of women participating at the London Triathlon has also been increasing year on year as interest for the UK’s fastest growing mainstream sport continues to grow. 2014 entries show further rises in female participation as women currently make up over a quarter of general entries and 56% of entries for the shorter super sprint distance.
Taking place at London Dockland’s Excel Centre, the event welcomes over 13,000 triathletes of all abilities and over 30,000 spectators to join an array of celebrity competitors and a fantastic elite field. At the 2013 event, a team comprising of Louis Smith MBE, Nicola Adams MBE and Jade Jones MBE joined the likes of Spice Girl Melanie Chisolm, Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas and cricket legend Mark Ramprakash to swim bike and run their way around some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks.
