A sell-out 1700 athletes will descend on Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor in Somerset, England, this weekend for the 8th annual Ironman 70.3 UK. The venue may play host to one of the most stunning on the Ironman 70.3 circuit, but with beauty comes the beast, and this course is certainly one of the toughest in the series too.
This iconic triathlon gets the sold-out Ironman UK season under way on Sunday 16 June. The race starts with a 1.2 mile swim in Wimbleball Lake, before the athletes embark on a two lap 56 mile bike course – which entails 52 hills and 1190m of climbing – and then culminates with a 13.1 mile, 3 lap mixed terrain run course, each with its very own grueling hill climb.
