UK cycle insurance specialist Cycleguard has extended its triathlon insurance to ‘refund hefty, pre-paid race fees should competitors be forced to pull out of a race because of injury or specific personal circumstances.’
Cycleguard notes that ‘While a triathlon is the ultimate test of mind and body, competitors are also often faced with a significant burden, with entry to some events costing as much as £100. But for almost one in four of the 150,000 Britons who signed up to participate in the three-sport event last year, the road to victory ended even before they reached the start line.’
Cycleguard estimates that individual participants in last year’s London Triathlon alone could have lost almost £135,000 in race fees, an issue which could arguably deter athletes on modest incomes from indulging in the sport they love.
It’s for this reason that Cycleguard triathlon insurance will now refund up to £300 of lost race fees in any one year should a triathlete have to pull out of a race.
Cycleguard triathlon insurance policyholders can also receive up to £500 of cover for cycling-specific accessories such as helmets, GPS and clothing, while customers’ bicycle spare parts including wheelsets and frames are also now protected.
