Specialist cycle insurance provider Cycleguard is set to give visitors to this year’s Virgin Active London Triathlon the opportunity to challenge – and outpace – a cyclist who is attempting to become the fastest woman in history to circumnavigate the world by bike.
Later this year, business leader turned cycling enthusiast Liz Dimmock will set out in her attempt to pedal almost 18,000 miles across 22 countries in 150 days and raise £1 million for the War Child charity as part of WorldRide 2013.
Visitors to Cycleguard’s stand (J30) at the London Triathlon, which takes place at London’s ExCeL Centre on 27-28 July, will have the chance to board a Condor static bike and cycle as far as they can in one minute – and beat the distance set by cyclist Liz.
Liz will also join Cycleguard – the official bicycle insurance partner for both WorldRide 2013 and the London Triathlon – to talk about her unique global cycling trip and her fundraising effort. And, in addition to taking on all-comers in the static bike challenge, there will be a prize for the person who correctly guesses the number of metres Liz will travel during her five-month trip.

By taking part in the Cycleguard challenges, visitors will not only have the chance to put their cycle skills to the test but also make a contribution to War Child which does so much to support children living in the world’s most dangerous war zones.”
Cycleguard is a key supporter of triathletes and recently extended its triathlon insurance to refund pre-paid race fees should competitors be forced to pull out of a race because of injury or specific personal circumstances.
Cycleguard estimates individual participants in last year’s London Triathlon alone would have lost a total of £135,000 in race fees, an issue which could arguably deter athletes on modest incomes from indulging in the sport they love. It’s for this reason that Cycleguard insurance will now refund up to £300 of lost race fees in any one year should a triathlete have to withdraw.
Scott added, “We have developed specialist insurance for athletes who want to perform to the best of their ability without having to worry about the monetary costs of withdrawing from a triathlon race.
“Specialist insurance also offers peace of mind when it comes to security. The security requirements on many regular bicycle insurance products require triathletes to lock their bikes during a race. But Cycleguard insurance allows triathletes the flexibility of not having to lock their bike during organised triathlon events such as the London Triathlon, ensuring their transition time between stages of the race is no longer than it needs to be.”
