St Lucia’s leading telecommunications company, Digicel St. Lucia, is on board as the title sponsor of Tri St Lucia, which is the largest and most diverse mass participation sporting event to be hosted on the Caribbean island.
The triathlon, which takes place on Saturday 23 November 2013 in the tranquil surroundings of Rodney Bay and the picturesque Pigeon Island, will be ‘fully powered by the telecommunications company’.
As noted by Human Race, triathlons are among the world’s fastest growing sporting events, attracting large numbers of participants, both in Human Race’s home market of the UK and abroad. The Digicel St Lucia triathlon is expected to attract over 500 athletes together with triathlon enthusiasts from around the world.
“The triathlon will be fully supported by a team of highly skilled and dedicated Digicel team members in addition to Human Race,” said Digicel’s Marketing Manager Kerchelle Jn-Charles.
“The St. Lucia Triathlon affords us yet another opportunity to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to youth development and sport.”
“Having Digicel on board as title sponsor is a fantastic endorsement of the event,” said Race Director John Lunt who organized the triathlon at the Olympic Games in London last year. He added “the distances are all achievable, the shortest – 200m swim, 3 mile bike and 1.5 mile run – make it ideal for your first triathlon. And we will also have a number of children’s events on the day. It’s a great honour to help stage an event on the beautiful island of St Lucia.”
Human Race founder John Lunt is a regular visitor to the island and will donate equipment and gear following the triathlon to locals. Surprisingly many of the kids on the island never learn to swim so the hope is that by donating the necessary gear they were be able to learn.
Human Race is the UK’s largest and most diverse mass participation events company; owning and delivering over 50 events in triathlon, cycling, running, duathlon and open water swimming for over 70,000 participants of all abilities and ages each year. These events bring together an active community of people taking part in sporting events for reasons ranging from fitness, competition, charity, health, fun or to simply finish. The participants vary from nervous first timers from 4 to 80 through to World Champions. Collectively, the events raise millions of pounds for hundreds of charities.
