With more than US$25 million distributed since it was established in 2003, the Ironman Foundation has come a long way. The foundation was established as a way for Ironman to leave a little piece of legacy behind in communities where Ironman events are held.
2013 has been another big year for the charitable organisation:
- 13 – Number of charitable organizations supported by Ironman 4 the Kidz in South Africa. The program raised Rand 1.6 million (US$154,000) this year, bringing the total amount raised since inception to Rand 6.6 million (US$635,179).
- 51 – Number of Charity Partner Teams in 2013, who raised US$4.5 million through their involvement with Ironman events.
- 160 – Average donation in the ‘Your Journey, Your Cause’ program this year. A total of US$1 million was raised through the program in 2013 thanks to the average US$2,500 raised by fundraisers.
- 747 – Number of Community Fund Grants given out in 2013, including US$66,000 provided to Gawad Kalinga to support Typhoon Hayian Relief and US$40,000 to the Greater Madison Sports Council to provide needy kids with scholarships to play organized sports.
- 50,000 – Amount that Ken Frederickson raised for the Mayo Clinic through the Your Journey, Your Cause program.
- 89,000 – Grants to First Responders given through the Ironman Foundation’s Community Fund Program, which has raised US$13 million since its inception and gave back US$1.6 million to 33 Ironman race communities this year.
- 106,000 – Amount in US dollars that Jordan Rapp raised through his Rappstar Charity Challenge Campaign.
- 118,600 – Total dollars raised through the annual Ironman eBay Auction for four entries to the Ironman World Championship. The average winning bid was US$29,000.
- 25,200,000 – Amount in US dollars provided in charitable support to non-profits globally through programs of The Ironman Foundation since inception.
The Ironman Foundation was established in 2003 as a way for Ironman to leave a little piece of legacy behind in communities where Ironman events are held. The mission of the Foundation is: ‘to leave Ironman’s legacy through philanthropy, volunteerism and grant making; by supporting various athletic, community, education, health, human services and public benefit non-profits organizations around the world.’
Today, the Foundation provides funding to non-profit groups globally through four distinct programs:
