Human Race is seeking a PR Executive as the company continues its expansion across the mass participation events industry. Working within the Marketing and Communications team, on a 12 month fixed term contract, the PR Executive will support the PR Manager to drive awareness of Human Race’s portfolio of events.
Human Race is the leading mass participation sports company in the UK through ‘a commitment to the active sporting lifestyle by owning, promoting and delivering a portfolio of 55 events across triathlon, cycling, running and open water swimming.’
Based in Chessington and managed by experienced individuals from the sports industry, Human Race is building a team of industry leading professionals to deliver, create and acquire mass participation events. The event portfolio currently includes a number of key events in the UK including:
- Windsor Triathlon and over 10 other triathlons
- Cycletta; series of seven women only cycling events supported by Victoria Pendleton and British Cycling
- Wiggle Dragon Ride – prestigious UK cyclo sportive event with 5000 cyclists
- Etape Cymru – ‘UK’s toughest closed roads cyclo sportive’, 2,500 cyclists
- Off Road Trail Running and Duathlon Series
- Human Race Open Water Swim Series
- Human Race Pace Series
The Human Race team delivers these events in entirety specialising in commercial expertise, marketing and world class event delivery; all with an overriding focus on delivering the best possible experience for participants, sponsors, media and charities.
Human Race is building a series of brands through its portfolio. This is either through event brands such as Cycletta (designed to become the ‘Race for life’ of cycling) and the Open Water Swim Series, or building Human Race as the umbrella brand across the portfolio. Integral to this development is engagement with the participation community across a range of press and communication platforms, media (traditional, digital and social), partnerships, viral and other sophisticated marketing and communication techniques.
Purpose of the role – how it adds value
The PR Executive will be responsible for supporting the Human Race commercial objective of driving entry numbers for all events, whilst delivering maximum value for participants, sponsors, media partners and associated event partners.
This will be achieved by creatively utilising the various assets available, including celebrity ambassadors, participant case studies and many more to secure media coverage in a wide range of media titles and across all media platforms. The PR Executive will need to continually unearth new PR assets, creatively devise PR stories and develop strong relationships with a range of journalists.
An important aspect of the role will be to manage the reporting of activity against team targets to continually drive growth with regards to media reach and value as well as supporting the servicing of Human Race sponsors and partners.
Main responsibilities of the job
Key duties:
- Working alongside the PR Manager to implement the Human Race PR & Communications strategy
- The day to day production and distribution of press releases to media
- Creation of content for use across Human Race platforms including the company’s website and the Human Race newsletter
- Regular management and population of Human Race social media channels
- Maximising opportunities available through event ‘celebrity’ ambassadors including planning and delivery of media days and launches
- Support a panel of Human Race Experts to broaden the type of media coverage achieved
- Develop friendships and professional relationships with editors and journalists
- Drive journalist participation within Human Race events
- To attend Human Race events with a broad commercial role and write post event reports, requiring frequent working weekends
- To provide on-going reports and measurements of PR coverage for internal and external evaluation

Other significant role requirements – other factors which have a bearing on a candidate’s ability to perform:
- A love of sport, particularly triathlon or swimming, cycling and running and an energetic disposition.
Work experience: minimum 1 year’s work experience in a PR focused role
Qualifications: graduate – preferably with a media / marketing degree
