The Ironman Foundation, in partnership with Newton Running, the official US footwear and run course sponsor of Ironman, have launched The Ironman Foundation-Newton Running Ambassador Triathlon Team. The new team will consist of 40 athletes to compete this year in Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events across North America.
“The Ironman Foundation and Newton Running have long since been associated with being a positive impact to the race communities with which we race in,” said David Deschenes, Executive Director of The Ironman Foundation.
“These athletes selected for the team will now be afforded yet another amazing platform to exemplify what it means to race for the greater good.”
Ambassador Team members are required to participate in one Ironman event and one Ironman 70.3 event during the 2013 race season, as well as volunteer their time for philanthropic opportunities that will help the race communities prior to their race day.
Philanthropy has long been a part of Newton Running’s brand identity and the company has long supported such organizations as Athletes for a Cure, Trickle Up and One World Running. It has also donated thousands of Newton Running shoes to people in need through its shoe grant program.
This week, Newton Running, the natural running shoe specialist, donated 1000 pairs of its run shoes to Back on My Feet, a US non-profit organisation that ‘uses running to help those experiencing homelessness transform their lives through employment and independent living.’
Since its inception in 2003, the Ironman Foundation has made philanthropic contributions of more than US$10 million to numerous non-profit beneficiaries worldwide. The Ironman Foundation is a US registered 501(c)(3) organisation and provides an opportunity for Ironman athletes to help those in the communities that support Ironman events. US residents who purchase Ironman Foundation slots will receive a tax-deduction in the amount of incremental registration price over general entry.
