After months of extensive testing by members of the Newton Running Elite racing team, Newton Running has introduced the latest addition to its performance run shoe line. The brand’s new Distance Elite features a race-specific fit and a streamlined midsole, creating a lightweight, highly responsive shoe that tips the scales at 7.2 ounces (204g) for men, 6.2 ounces (176g) for women.
“At our athletes’ request, we created a shoe combining the best features of our racing shoes like the MV3, with the forefoot cushioning found in our popular performance trainers,” said Newton Running Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer, Danny Abshire.
“As a result, the Distance Elite offers more protection than a standard racing flat but feels faster than our lightweight trainers.”
The new shoe has a highly breathable, fast-drying mesh upper that employs minimal stitching, an asymmetrical lacing system and welded support strapping over the midfoot. The Distance Elite features the same outsole/midsole package as the Distance Light Weight Trainer, which has a 2mm drop from heel to toe and Newton Running’s dynamic four-lug cushioning to protect the runner from impact.
Newton Running Elite athletes have reported the Distance Elite to be light, responsive, comfortable and fast as they continue to post blazing times in the new shoe. “It’s like putting on a fresh pair of legs,” said Newton Running Elite team member Stephen Pifer, of Jacksonville, Florida, who recently won Georgia’s Savannah Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon, setting a new PR of 65:31.
Marathoner Fernando Cabada of Boulder, Colorado, has been racing in the Distance Elite since joining Newton Running Elite in late 2012 and has since posted several impressive wins, including the Costa Rica International Marathon, the Mercedes Benz Half Marathon in Birmingham, Alabama, and the Los Angeles Rock ‘N Roll Half Marathon.
“The Distance Elite has quickly become my favourite racing shoe since setting personal bests from 5K to the half marathon in it,” said Newton Running Elite team member Tyler McCandless of Boulder, Colorado, who nabbed victories in the new shoe at Hawaii’s Great Aloha Run, Pensacola Double Bridge Run 15K in Pensacola, Florida, and the Double Road Race 10K in Overland Park, Kansas.
The Distance Elite will retail for US$155 and will be available at specialty retailers and www.newtonrunning.com starting on 1 November 2013.
