Orbea bets on Asia, opening two stores in China and Taiwan

Spanish bike brand Orbea has opened two new stores in Chengdu and Taichung, cities in China and Taiwan, taking its total to more than 30 existing establishments Orbea already has in these Asian countries.

The shop in Chengdu – an important political and cultural centre in southwest China – is the newest of the two. With a surface area of 100m2, the new space aims to mirror the brand’s values. It supplies all the products in the brand catalogue and is the second establishment Orbea has in the capital of the province of Sichuan.

Customers in Chengdu will find the Ordu, Occam, Oiz, Orca or Aqua bike models, along with clothing and helmets, in store. The company also notes, as in every Orbea store, customers can get advice and after-sales service from qualified staff, who are also sports devotees.

The two new shops add to the existing 28 ‘booming Orbea dealers across China’. Orbea sees Asia, and China in particular, as a key strategic market, which is why the company attaches so much importance to it.

Taichung, in central Taiwan, is the third largest city on the island, after Taipei and Kaohsiung. Orbea’s new store adds to the three well-established outlets it already has in this city. With a surface area of 120m2 and spread out onto two levels, the Taichung shop sells road, tri and mountain bikes.

In addition, Orbea notes that this store has the entire range of Orca triathlon products. The store comes complete with a workshop, a shower that can be used after a ride, and a bar, among other facilities.

Swim and triathlon brand Orca is part of the Orbea family – with Orbea and Orca reaching an agreement in 2011 for Orbea to acquire Orca’s ‘operation rights in the triathlon and compression area.’ Orbea is part of the Mondragón Cooperative Corporation and is Spain’s largest bicycle operator.
