With around 700 athletes making waves along the river in Bilbao and a big festival atmosphere, this year’s third Bilbao Triathlon on 18 May has become one of the major triathlon events in Spain. With this in mind, Orbea and Orca have chosen the event for the official presentation of the Orbea Orca Triathlon Team.
In 2013, with the support of Orbea and Orca, the race is gaining even more importance. The biggest triathlon festival in the capital of Vizcaya will witness the official presentation of the recently formed Orbea Orca Triathlon Team. Pro team athletes Andrew Starykowicz, Åsa Lundström and Albert Moreno are joining other triathlon stars to be part of a top-level field.
Raúl Casañas, Orca’s Marketing Manager, responsible for the Orbea Orca Triathlon Team, confirmed that “the participation of our team, every May, at the Bilbao Triathlon, is going to be a solid long-term commitment, marking the beginning of the team’s sporting season and will serve to make these athletes known at home, before going on to international sports events.
“We look forward to make a show and surprise with some more news, which we will present during the week of the triathlon of Bilbao.”
In January, Spain’s leading bike company Orbea confirmed its partnership with Orca to form the Orbea-Orca Triathlon Team. Orbea wants to continue to develop and grow globally, and notes…. ‘With the athletes racing in our team we are reinforcing this statement.’
The Orbea-Orca Triathlon Team project works not only at a pro level but also by launching a global talented athletes program. This will mean brand involvement with the best young talented athletes in both long and short distance.
Heralding from New Zealand, Orca is part of the Orbea family – with Orbea and Orca reaching an agreement in 2011 for Spanish Orbea to acquire Orca’s ‘operation rights in the triathlon and compression area.’
Orbea is part of the Mondragón Cooperative Corporation and is Spain’s largest bicycle operator.
