Spanish-owned bike brand Orbea – part of Mondragón Cooperative Corp – continues to make its presence felt on the international stage and now presents the new Orbea Avant road bike. Billed as the ‘most dynamic and adaptable bike ever seen’, the Avant is designed in carbon fibre, is disc or rim brake compatible and comes with mechanical or electronic shifting.
The Avant is available in seven sizes, designed around stack and reach to provide a wide range of fit options. The Orbea Avant uses a press fit bottom bracket and a tapered headtube. The rear dropouts can also accept 130mm or 135mm hubs giving maximum flexibility on wheel choice.
According to the company, ‘Avant is a model created for enthusiastic road riders and designed since the very begining thinking on the latest road revolution: disc brakes.’
The seven sizes (47, 49, 51, 53, 55, 57 and 60) ‘will allow any man or woman to find the perfect bike.’ With the goal of giving riders the best quality riding experience, the Avant has two different forks depending on the size of the bike. The smallest sizes (47, 49 and 51cm) have a rake of 53mm. The larger sizes use a fork with a 43mm rake.
In this way, Orbea claims to have guaranteed correct steering geometry for a confidence inspiring ride. Avant has been created with Carbon Monocoque technology. This construction process allows Orbea to create one-piece structures with the best performance, light weight and strength. In turn, Orbea offers its riders a lifetime warranty on every frame.
The Orbea Avant can also be outfitted with fenders and racks if riders choose to ride for adventure or touring, yet the discreet mounts are virtually hidden when the bike is ridden without them. The bike can also take tyres up to 28mm for riding on poorer quality roads. And there are three different colour options for this brand new step in Orbea’s journey of new product development.
The name of the bike comes from a special event, the Pax Avant. The Pax Avant is a cycling tour running through two territories in Spain and France.
Orbea promotes the race, which celebrates a course that has a history dating back nearly 650 years. In 1375 the people of two opposing Pyrenean valleys, one Spanish and one French, made peace after years of border disputes. Political representatives and citizens of each valley come to witness and partake of the festivities during an annual ceremony and celebration in July. The local festival closes with the pronunciation of two words: ‘Pax Avant!’ (So let there be peace!)
