Triathlon Ireland Receives Boost in Funding for 2013

The Irish Sports Council has announced the funding that will be made available to NGB’s and Athletes for 2013.

Despite tough economic conditions and a reduction in the ISC’s budget by 3% or 1.3 million, Triathlon Ireland are set to buck the trend and receive an increase of (EU)€15,000 from €245,000 to €260,000 towards TI’s High Performance Program. In recognition of their senior elite athletes, the potential shown by the National Junior Squad and the hard work and dedication of coaches, volunteers and all those involved in triathlon, Triathlon Ireland is just one of five NBG’s to receive an increase.

With regard to core funding which is issued by the ISC to “cover administration, participation programmes, coach development, hosting events, implementing strategic plans, and the employment of professional staff.” Triathlon Ireland have seen no change in funding with it remaining the same as 2012 at €97,500. TI did receive a small reduction in Women in Sport funding from €15,000 to €14,250 which is regrettable.

Triathlon Ireland is one of 18 NGB’s out of 59 to have avoided a cut in its core funding.

Please note: ISC funding to TI in 2012 is shown as €107,500 however this includes €10,000 for ISC supported events and was not available as core funding for TI use, for this reason TI’s core funding between 2012 and 2013 remains unchanged at €97,500.

Athlete Funding

Aileen Reid’s funding remains unchanged from 2012 at ‘World Class’ level of €20,000. Gavin Noble also remains unchanged at ‘International’ level and €12,000.

Following on from an impressive return to international competition, Bryan Keane has received a welcome boast and is back on funding at ‘International’ level of €12,000.

This funding goes towards individual athlete expenses such as travel, equipment, nutrition and the various other necessities of an elite athlete.
