With one of the biggest triathlon events of the year all set for action with the return of the XTERRA England Championships in Cranleigh, Surrey, on 8 September 2013, the event will also provide the backdrop for an important summit of triathlon decision makers. The event sees a number of XTERRA race directors in attendance to discuss and shape the future of off-road triathlon internationally.
Whilst triathletes and fans of the sport will be thrilled by the off-road skills on display in the purpose-built course within the private-grounds of the Vachery Estate – race directors, business leaders and international sponsors from across the sport and the XTERRA world are being invited to the annual XTERRA Race Summit, held in Cranleigh, across the race week.
The summit will be led by Dave Nicholas, the founder of XTERRA and Managing Director of Team Unlimited, which created the iconic off-road race series in 1996. Nicholas has overseen XTERRA’s growth into the most important off-road triathlon series in the world, with over 30 championship events culminating in the stunning world championship finale in Maui, Hawaii, on 27 October 2013.
Nicholas will be travelling to the XTERRA England Championship race and the XTERRA Race Summit from Hawaii, and will be joined by colleagues from across the Americas and Europe.

XTERRA is an international off-road triathlon race series that presents athletes with a unique challenge using the natural resources found within the race venue. XTERRA England is the final race of the European series and as such, will see continental as well as national honours settled.
As well as the elite race, the top amateurs will be competing to earn one of 40 Maui World Championship slots that up for grabs. Hundreds of mountain bike and triathlon fans will also enjoy the unique challenge of the course, racing for the personal challenge of finishing the race or to raise funds for their own charities, or for the official race partners – the Children’s Air Ambulance charity.
The race offers all triathletes an unforgettable experience that includes a 1.5K swim in the private spring-fed lake, then joining the 30K singletrack and trails of the Vachery Estate, before returning to T2 and heading out on a multi-lap run through trails and natural obstacles found in the woods. On course nutrition will be supplied by High5.
The event promises to offer something for everyone, with on-site camping within the Vachery Estate, an exhibitor’s area featuring the latest in triathlon gear and produce from local suppliers plus fun activities for all the family who can enjoy the great atmosphere and countryside whilst watching the race.
The Vachery Estate is located just outside the picturesque village of Cranleigh in the Surrey Hills, only minutes from London and the motorways, M25, M23 and M3.
Local residents who are not competing or volunteering are welcome to visit the Vachery Estate in Cranleigh, Surrey, and enjoy spectating this international sporting event with the action starting from 10:00 GMT on Sunday 8 September. There is no charge for admission – with on-site parking, an athletes’ shopping village, food and drink and entertainment for children all on offer.
