2XU has been confirmed as the official sponsor for the swim and running course at Challenge Denmark. Taking place in the spectacular Jutland region, the first event will run on 13 June 2015 over both the full and half distances.
“2XU are known for their high quality compression sportswear, triathlon wear and wetsuits – perfect for the triathlon discipline – and we are therefore ecstatic to have them on our team,” said Challenge Denmark Race Director Claus Vesterby.
Since 2XU opened its office and showroom in Denmark in 2013, the company behind it, Enjoy Sport Denmark, has expanded at ‘an almost impossible rate’. “2XU has reached more than 40 stores in less than 8 months, and more are coming all the time,” said Sales Manager for Enjoy Sport Denmark, Erik Eriksen.
According to a release from Challenge Family, ‘it therefore makes perfect sense for 2XU and Challenge Denmark to team up.’
Challenge Denmark is a part of the Challenge Family, billed as ‘the fastest growing global long distance triathlon series’, now with 40 long distance triathlons in 17 countries around the world. Challenge Denmark is positioned as a unique event with a family- and spectator friendly course in the Jutland Region and a finish line in Billund next to Lalandia.
“We really believe in this collaboration which is why we’ve also taken on the role as official sponsor of sportswear at Challenge Denmark,” says Erik Eriksen from 2XU.
‘Calm waters and great tarmac’
The return of Challenge Family to Denmark next June follows the termination of Challenge Family’s contract with YWC Sports and the Challenge Copenhagen and Challenge Aarhus races last July. According to Challenge, the sale by the directors of YWC to Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp (WTC) put the local event organisers in breach of a contract that still had two more editions of each race to run.
The new Challenge Denmark event sees the swim takes place in Fuglsang Lake in Herning, a city renowned for its sporting events and facilities. The cycle heads south towards Billund. The route is flat and fast on some of the ‘greatest tarmac roads in Denmark’ and athletes can expect some fast times from this course. The race will also go through some of the same parts of the country as the Giro d’Italia did in 2012 when the race visited Denmark.
The run course is centred in and around Legoland Billund Resort and is flat and fast, including a special feature of a lap around the horse racing track before finishing in the heart of Lalandia, home to Denmark’s largest water park and tropical holiday centre.
Triathletes crossing the finish line in Billund next June will be able to pull on a quality 2XU technical t-shirt, which is being offered up as part of the new sponsorship deal, along with ‘the pride of having finished a great race.’
