The Ecover Blue Mile, the UK mass participation water sports event programme designed to encourage more people to actively support greater care of seas, shores and wildlife, is renewing its swim kit partnership with Aqua Sphere. Launched in 2010, the Ecover Blue Mile encourages people to connect with their local beach and waterway by doing a sponsored mile in or next to the water.
It has grown from a flagship event in Plymouth to two flagship events at Plymouth and Weymouth, this year adding a one-mile open water swim and an aquatriathlon to the Weymouth programme to create two fully comprehensive schedules for teams and individuals.
This gives more people than ever a chance to get involved and swim, surf, kayak, paddleboard or doggy paddle their mile! In addition, the Ecover Blue Mile engages hundreds of children in a nationwide schools and grassroots programme to link school sport with marine conservation. All activity is designed to ‘celebrate our seas’ and raise money to support the programme’s official charity, the Marine Conservation Society.
Martin Newton of Aqua Sphere said “Aqua Sphere is once again delighted to support the Ecover Blue Mile. Protection of our water environment is deeply rooted in our corporate culture and we fully emulate the programme’s passion and commitment to creating a better future for our seas and wildlife.”
Event organiser Conrad Humphreys added “We are thrilled to continue our work with Aqua Sphere as our official swim merchandise partner. As a brand, Aqua Sphere truly embodies our ethos of encouraging people to feel closer to our natural world. We very much look forward to continuing our relationship.”
Registration is now live for the Ecover Blue Mile flagship events – plus schools, colleges and organisations across the UK are also encouraged to ‘Go Blue! and do something amazing for our seas’.
