ASICS showcases Pete Jacobs: a day in the life

While he may have had a challenging race day at this year’s IRONMAN World Championship in Hawaii, there’s no taking away the tremendous success of 2012, when Australian Pete Jacobs became IRONMAN World Champion.

In a bid to understand what makes a professional triathlete tick, ASICS is inviting triathlon fans to experience a day in the life of 2012 Ironman World Champion Pete Jacobs and his wife Jamielle.

Pete and Jamielle aren’t your average married couple; they live together, train together and compete alongside one another as professional triathletes.

Regarded as one of the world’s finest long distance swimmers and runners, ASICS brand ambassador Pete Jacobs achieved his dream of winning the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, 2012. His ‘less is more’ approach also helped him secure second place in 2011; and in 2010 he achieved the fastest marathon time in the race history – 2:41:05.

The below-the-line video campaign ‘Living with a Triathlete’ is part of ASICS’ 2014 ‘Better Your Best’ global campaign. The video has been delivered across social media platforms and hosted on the brand’s YouTube channel since 6 October.

The ‘day in the life of’ video provides an insight into the life of a triathlete: taking in everything from daily rituals, quirky habits and even fashion attire. Commenting on a typical day in his life, Pete Jacobs said “On a good day I will ride for five hours, run for half an hour, swim in the afternoon, run home, have a sleep and do it all over again.”

Shot at the couple’s home town of Noosa, Australia, the video shines a light on the couple’s rather unusual marital habits. A typical evening includes making high-protein foods and training on a static race bike whilst watching a movie together.

Demonstrating the extraordinary determination required of top-level triathletes Jacobs commented; “You’ve got to be 100% focused to stay on track,” and this philosophy is demonstrated throughout the short film.

Jamielle Jacobs said, “You can spot a triathlete from a mile off; they are wearing lots of tight shorts and high tight compression socks.”

ASICS notes that it is committed to understanding the needs of triathletes. The brand’s GEL NOOSA TRI 10 run shoe delivers lightweight performance with practical benefits. The open mesh upper and perforated sock liner improves breathability and moisture drainage, with elastic laces, tongue grips and heel grips designed to make transitions easy.
