The latest video from ASICS on the unique Outrun the Sun challenge explains the course and route the athletes will take as they attempt to circumnavigate Mt Blanc before they run out of light.
In the latest video on the challenge, Race Director Laurent Ardito explains the route and the challenges the teams will face as they race to make it around Europe’s highest peak before the sun goes down. In addition, the video we also have available both course splits for the teams. These help visualise the mammoth task the athletes are taking on across different heights and battling multiple terrains.
Amongst the athletes taking part in this challenge is 2013 winner of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, Xavier Thevenard and 100-mile world record holder Jonas Buud. Due to unforeseen family circumstances, elite triathlete Tim Don (UK) will no longer be taking part in the challenge and ASICS will confirm his replacement as soon as possible.
ASICS is organising a world-first trail running challenge where two teams of trail runners will attempt to ‘Outrun The Sun’ in a unique race against nature. The challenge sees two relay teams attempt to circumnavigate Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe, starting at sunrise and finishing at sunset on 21 June 2014 – the longest day of the year. As part of the challenge, the athletes will be divided into two teams; Team ‘Ultra-Trail’ and Team ‘Enduro’.
The athletes will have exactly 15 hours, 41 minutes and 35 seconds to circumnavigate Mont Blanc. The challenge which starts and finishes in Chamonix, covers over 162K of mountainous terrain and passes through three countries: France, Italy and Switzerland.
