Compelling studios to show: Sufferfest enters the group fitness market

The Sufferfest – creator of some of the world’s best cycling, running and triathlon training videos – has launched a licensing program that is ‘set to transform the indoor cycling experience for facilities, instructors and participants.’ This is The Sufferfest’s first official foray into the group fitness market.

“Indoor cycling has remained the same for too long,” said The Sufferfest CEO David McQuillen. “More and more studios now have video capability, but nothing compelling to show. We’ve changed that by bringing professional bike-racing video into the studio, creating an immersive, exciting experience unlike anything indoor cyclists have ever seen.”

Known for a strong community and sense-of-humour, the Sufferfest has earned a fanatical following, with customers – who call themselves ‘Sufferlandrians’ – in more than 70 countries around the world. The high-intensity interval workout videos are driven by synchronised soundtracks, creative story lines and officially licensed footage from the world’s biggest races, such as the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, World Championships, Paris-Roubaix and more.

“It’s an incredible experience to feel like you’re riding with the best cyclists in the world,” said McQuillen. “Because our videos are suitable for everyone from beginners to professional athletes, studios can now deliver thrilling classes that appeal to all. And Sufferfest videos get results because the workouts are designed by some of the world’s best coaches.”

Because all Sufferfest videos have instructions on screen, instructors are able to engage more with their students by walking the room, providing individualised coaching. The classes can also be run without an instructor, allowing studios to offer sessions at times they might not have been able to in the past.

The Sufferfest programme is subscription-based and includes a collection of 15 different videos with sessions ranging from 20 minutes to 2 hours. New videos are added every quarter. Officially licensed facilities also receive an extensive toolkit of resource materials including detailed ride profiles, branding materials, marketing platforms and merchandise opportunities.

The Sufferfest also offers a series of race-based running and triathlon videos for the emerging ‘treadmill running classes’ trend.

There are already over 20 licensed Sufferfest facilities in 9 countries, and that number is expected to significantly grow following this week’s official launch of the group licensing program.
