Three time Ironman World Champion, Craig ‘Crowie’ Alexander, has confirmed that he will be part of Ironman UK’s 10 year celebrations in Bolton over the weekend of Sunday 20 July 2014.
This comes as exciting news for organisers as the Australian triathlete, is one of the world’s most remarkable and respected Ironman Champions of his generation. His presence will be a huge inspiration for athletes and everyone involved in the event.
Ahead of his visit to the UK, Craig commented, “I am really looking forward to spectating at Ironman UK this July. I have heard the course in Bolton is beautiful and very spectator-friendly. It sounds like a great venue to really get behind the athletes and cheer them on to the finish.”
To fully immerse himself in this special event, Crowie will be on hand for some last minute advice for athletes at the pre event pasta party on Friday 18 July. On Saturday 19 July he will be inspiring the next generation of triathletes at the IronKids race in Bolton’s town centre; and it is here on Sunday 20 July that he will also be a welcome sight for athletes crossing the finish line, where he will be handing out medals.
Being based the other side of the world, this will be a very rare opportunity to hear and meet Crowie, who is not only a multiple Ironman Champion but also one of the most admired people in triathlon.
Crowie, now 40 years old, has not only won both the 70.3 and Ironman World Championships; but in 2011 he also achieved the World Championship double as well as claiming a new world record, which he currently still holds. His victories stretch over several years, claiming the Ironman World titles in 2008, 2009 as well as 2011.
His involvement with the event comes alongside one of several developments for Ironman UK in 2014, including the proposed new and extended 2 lap bike course and re location of T2 to the Reebok Stadium, which has enabled organisers to accommodate more athletes to the event.
