Girl (team) power at Shock Absorber WomenOnly Triathlon

Human Race is building momentum for this year’s Shock Absorber Women Only Triathlon. The female specific tri event is now offering up the opportunity for athletes to join a team with Olympic and World Champion cyclist Victoria Pendleton and Spice Girl Melanie C.

Both of the high profile women will be leading their own triathlon relay teams at the Shock Absorber WomenOnly Triathlon on Sunday 13 July.

Human Race is offering an exclusive chance to join them for 2 lucky winners who will each take a place in their relay teams. Winners will be chosen at random and contacted on 31 May 2014 so there will be lots of time to get in some last minute training and do the team proud!

The Shock Absorber WomenOnly Triathlon is positioned as a fantastic celebration of women in sport and is ideal for first timers and experienced triathletes alike as there are many distances to choose from. Melanie’s and Victoria’s teams will be taking on the SuperSprint distance which includes a 400m swim, 21.2K bike and 5K run.

To be in with a chance of winning this money can’t buy prize, athletes need simply enter their details at the WomenOnly Tri Competition page and select which team they would like to be a part of, as well as what discipline they want to take on (swim, bike or run).

In addition to this great prize, Shock Absorber will give a bra to 5 lucky runners-up.

Human Race thought it probably wouldn’t be fair if Victoria took the cycling leg, so she will be running instead. So, to be part of her team athletes should either choose to cycle or swim (Victoria will be able to give some expert tips to her team cyclist).

Melanie will be taking on the swim leg; so to be in with a chance of competing in her team, athletes should simply choose either the bike or running leg of the triathlon. Once Melanie has handed over the timing chip to the cyclist, she will support the team by going on to complete the entire triathlon by herself also.

If an athlete happens to win the competition and is already entered in the triathlon, Human Race will refund the entry fee.

For those who aren’t lucky enough to win a spot on one of the teams, Human Race is encouraging athletes to get a group of girls together and enter a relay team of their own… ‘The atmosphere on the day will be fantastic and participants will get the chance to see Melanie and Victoria in action.’

The Shock Absorber Women Only Triathlon itself is geared towards celebrating women’s participation in triathlon and offers the opportunity for women of all abilities to compete like for like in a friendly, fun and non-intimidating environment.

With distances ranging from Novice (200m swim, 5.3K bike, 2.5K run) to Super Sprint (400m swim, 21.2K bike, 5K run) and Challenge (800m swim, 31.8K bike, 7.5K run), as well as a relay over the latter distance, Human Race notes ‘there is sure to be a race for all that will not only challenge participants but give them the ultimate feeling of achievement and most importantly have a fun day out.’
