Home sweet home as XTERRA rolls out Word Championship qualifier in Maui

For the first-time ever, Maui will host its very own qualifier for the XTERRA Worlds as the XTERRA Adventure Fest hits the ground running in Kapalua, Maui, on 9 August.

The race consists of a 0.5 mile swim, 10 mile mountain bike and 5K run at Kapalua Resort on many of the same trails that are used during the XTERRA World Championships. In addition to the off-road triathlon, there will be a 5K and 10K trail run and Keiki 1K and 2K runs.

As the local race organisers point out, ‘Maui has been voted the number one island in the world now for 18 years straight by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine, so why not have this brand new event here on the best island in the world.’

The XTERRA Adventure Fest is aiming to offer something for everyone, from extreme adult athletes, to casual runners, and even kids. Qualifying spots for the XTERRA World Championship Race will be awarded to top finishers of the triathlon event.

Taking place on 26 October, the XTERRA World Championship race in Maui is the last in a series of nearly 100 off-road triathlon events held in 16 countries and 30+ US States. The concept is to provide a bona-fide off-road world championship for amateur and pro athletes. For pros there is US$105,000 in prize money at stake. Amateurs race for the title of XTERRA World Champion within their designated age group.
