UK bike brand and accessories retailer Planet X now has a retail sales deal in place with wetsuit and apparel specialist HUUB. The agreement with the two companies sees a select number of HUUB products for sale via the increasingly popular Planet X website, notably the HUUB Archimedes Wetsuit, HUUB Axena Womens Wetsuit, HUUB Goggles and HUUB Skull Cap.
Whilst more known for its own bike brand, which is predominantly distributed direct to consumers online, the heightened popularity of the Planet X website has seen the company stock a number of third party brands.
Planet X does have its roots in triathlon and the company has started to sell selected wetsuit brands from 2XU, blueseventy and now HUUB.
As the company website points out… ‘The seeds of Planet X were founded by Dave Loughran over 25 years ago, mostly driven out of Dave’s desire to get the brand new triathlon kit from America, subsidising his purchases by buying four of something and selling three to his mates. He gradually evolve[d], importing more tri products, and soon became the UK distributor for PowerBar, which he grew to be their biggest export account, before parting from them when they sold the brand to Nestlé.’ [The PowerBar brand is currently in the process of being sold to food and nutrition firm Post Holdings.]
Planet X also notes the importance of wetsuits to its triathlete consumer base… ‘Tailored buoyancy can correct imperfection in position and technique for athletes coming from a running and cycling background, and advances in material flexibility help prevent fatigue whether in a sprint distance triathlon or Ironman event.’
