Ironman boosted Down Under by expanded Bonk Breaker deal

Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp (WTC) has confirmed Bonk Breaker as the Official Nutrition Bar for Ironman events in Australia.

Bonk Breaker is already the Official Nutrition Bar for Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events in the United States, and participants at the Ironman Asia Pacific Championship Melbourne to be held on Sunday 23 March will be the first event to benefit from the expanded relationship.

Bonk Breaker has been distributed by Australian distributor FE Sports for three years and is ‘one of the fastest growing nutrition bars in Australia’. The deal with WTC Down Under also includes Toyota Ironman Australia, Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney, and the SunSmart Ironman Western Australia events.

“It’s very exciting for us to expand our Ironman partnership into the Australian market and to provide these incredible athletes with the best real food nutrition bars to fuel their bodies,” said Bonk Breaker Chairman and Co-CEO Chris Frank.

“We’ve had incredible success with the Ironman US Series, and we share common philosophies that athletes at all levels can attain great achievements through hard work and great nutrition. We look forward to a successful partnership.”

As the Official Nutrition bar, participants will benefit from the ‘Real Food, Real Fuel, Real Flavor’ pledge from Bonk Breaker. The freshly baked bars combine aim to optimise flavour with high-performance nutrition; and all Bonk Breaker products are also gluten and dairy-free. ‘They use only natural, non-GMO ingredients that you can pronounce and that your body will recognize.’

“We are very pleased to strengthen the global partnership between Ironman and Bonk Breaker with introduction of their fantastic product to our Australian events,” said Jeff Gillies, Chief Marketing Officer of Ironman Asia Pacific.

“Ironman athletes are the pinnacle influencers in endurance sports and this series of premium events will provide a fantastic platform to launch Bonk Breaker to the endurance sports community of Asia Pacific for years to come.”

Bonk Breaker notes that it has developed distinct, great tasting natural flavours that athletes enjoy. The brand started with the classic PB&J (Peanut Butter & Jam) and have added 10 more flavours to the range.

Ironman Asia Pacific Championship in Melbourne

Ironman Asia Pacific Championship Melbourne will be held on Sunday 23 March 2014. The 226K race will take place in Melbourne’s South East and Bayside suburbs. The course will include a 3.8K swim in the Frankston Foreshore, a fast and smooth 180K bike on the EastLink motorway and 42.2K Brooks run from Frankston to the Ironman Asia Pacific Championship finish line, located at the iconic St Kilda Catani Gardens.

A one hour special will air on 7Mate, on Sunday 6 April at 14:00 local time. (7mate is an Australian free-to-air high definition digital television channel, which was launched by the Seven Network in 2010.)

The Official Nutrition Bar of Ironman, USA Cycling and the USA Cycling Team, Bonk Breaker was honoured as the ‘Best Energy Bar’ by Road Bike Action magazine two years running and the ‘Best of Competitor’ magazine for the fifth time in 2013. Owned and operated by Chris Frank and Jason Winn, both elite-level athletes in their own right, Bonk Breaker’s mission is to be the nutrition bar of choice for weekend warriors, families and world-class athletes alike.

The brand is targeted at ‘anyone hungry for the best tasting, freshest and most nutritious energy and protein bars on the planet.’ The Santa Monica, California-based company’s quest began in 2006 when Winn and his mother baked the first peanut butter & jam bar in Mama Winn’s kitchen and it continues today with an ever-expanding line-up of products and flavours combining all-natural real food gluten, dairy and soy free ingredients.
