Powerman, the international long distance duathlon series, is rolling out a new event in Denmark on 27 April 2014. Taking place in Copenhagen, Powerman Denmark will be part of the International Powerman World Series from 2014 and will be a qualifier for the Powerman World Cup in Zofingen, Switzerland, in September 2014.
The Powerman Denmark distances are 10K run, 120K bike, 20K run. In addition to the main event, a Sprint duathlon (2.5K run, 20K bike, 5K run) is also on offer.
The organisers note that ‘It’s going to be a really tough race no matter if you are pro and run for the glory and prize money or if you’re an all comer and recreational sport athlete and simply run to survive!’
Powerman has events in Holland, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Germany and the World Championship in Switzerland. Powerman USA Duathlon Series events are also official qualifiers for the Zofingen World Championship.
Entries for Powerman Denmark opened on Friday 13 December. Leading up to this, in less than 5 days, the new event had close to 1000 likes on Facebook. At the time of writing, this had more than doubled – indicating a strong following for the Powerman brand and healthy interest in the new Denmark event.
Local organiser DoYouRiskIt Event is behind Powerman Denmark. DoYouRiskIt Event’s stated mission and goal is to get either the European Championship or World Cup to Denmark within the next three years. The company notes, ‘We will be working closely with the athletes to develop the sport and set new limits on what is possible to hold professional events in Copenhagen.’
John Raadschelders, President of the International Powerman Association said “We are delighted to work with [DoYouRiskIt Event directors] Peter Sorensen and Thomas Dupont as exclusive organisers for Powerman Denmark from 2014.”
He continued, “Many Danish – and Scandinavian athletes have be asking, for years, to have a demanding Powerman Denmark. For them a wish comes through. The goal for all (top athletes, all-comers and youth) is to start at the first Powerman Denmark. Let’s go for it!”
DoYouRiskIt Event has previously run a number of events, such as: Codan Kids Tour, Race Against Cancer and Garmin Winter Trail.
DoYouRiskIt Director Peter Sorensen is former police officer, and director of Kippis Invest and COCA A/S. Director Thomas Dupont is a former Marketing Manager at Amer Sports, which has a diverse portfolio of brands such as Mavic, Salomon, alongside Wilson, Precor, Atomic and Arc’teryx.
