Sports Tours International takes to the track with Le Manc 24 Hours

Sports Tours International is launching a unique UK track cycling event, Le Manc 24 Hours, which will take place at the National Cycling Centre Manchester, UK, on the weekend of 8-9 November 2014.

A mixture of 16 corporate, cycling club and charity teams will take to the boards of the world famous Manchester Velodrome for a 24 hour challenge, with the winning team the one that covers the greatest distance crowned Le Manc 24 Champions 2014.

‘Le Manc 24 Hours’ is positioned as a unique event that will have the buzz and excitement of its French motorsport namesake, but indoors on the cycling track. The pressure will be on to complete as many laps of the 250m track as possible, cycling through the night to fulfil the challenge.

With the recent boom in cycling participation across the UK and the continuation of the Olympic legacy, this is seen as an exclusive opportunity to experience the thrill and excitement of velodrome riding, where in recent years the likes of Dame Sarah Storey DBE and Joanna Rowsell MBE have collected multiple Olympic and Commonwealth gold medals.

Le Manc 24 Ambassador Dame Sarah Storey DBE said “Don’t miss out on this unique challenge to spend 24 hours clocking up as much distance as possible alongside your team. The Manchester Velodrome is an iconic venue and this event will provide the participants with another chance to create history inside a building that has already seen so many records established and broken.”

The race
Riding as a team, participants can share this amazing experience between a maximum of 6 riders, with each expecting to complete at least 3 hours in the saddle. Team strategy will certainly be crucial as well as the need for physical strength and endurance.

  • Racing starts at 12 noon on Saturday 8 November
  • The chequered flag drops at 12 noon on Sunday 9th November
  • 16 teams maximum, with a maximum of 6 riders per team, with only one rider from each team on the track at any one point
  • Open to teams that consist of both male and female riders

Included in each team entry are many of the elements that professional velodrome riders will be accustomed to. The use of a track bike, helmet and track bike shoes enables cyclists to come to the venue and perform with the exact equipment needed for a endurance experience along with 24 mechanical support, and chip timing for the all important distance recoding and speed data.
