To celebrate the 25th year of the Windsor Triathlon in the UK, Human Race is inviting back all previous winners to join in with the celebrations of next year’s event, which takes place on 14 June 2015.
As the years have passed, former champions have relocated to various places around the globe. To get in touch about the 25th anniversary celebrations, champions can either tweet the @HumanRaceEvents twitter account using #WindsorTri25, or leave a message on the Human Race Facebook page.
Richard Stannard, winner of the 2007 and 2008 races is leading the way and has already registered to race in 2015. Stannard, who is set to compete over the Olympic Distance said “I was going to retire gracefully after my 2014 season aged 40. However, I thought dragging my 41-year-old body around the famous and iconic Windsor triathlon course one last time would be a better way to finish. I cannot wait!”
Already signed up to join Richard in reliving their Windsor glory are female champions Ali Hollington, who secured a win in ‘94, and Sian Brice who scooped the title an amazing four times in ’96, ’97, ’99 and 2000.
Other notable winners of the event include Jodie Stimpson, double Commonwealth Games Gold medallist, Spencer Smith who won the inaugural race in 1991 and went on to win six of the first nine, and Emma Pallant, winner of the past two years, GB triathlete and future star of the sport.
Participants in this year’s event can look forward to various Q&A sessions with previous winners on Saturday 13 June, ahead of racing the next day. The winners will also gather for a formal dinner to celebrate their achievements and the success of Windsor Triathlon over the past quarter century.
The Windsor Triathlon, seven-time winner of the British Triathlon Federation’s ‘Triathlon of the Year’ award, is now open for entries. Those that complete the event in 2015 will receive a special edition 25th anniversary t-shirt and commemorative medal.
