The organisers of the 2016 Bike Expo in Manchester, UK, have revealed a new addition to next year’s event – an 800m hard-grip, indoor track, which will play host to a series of cycling races over two days from 18-19 March 2016 (the expo itself runs from 18-20 March).
Staged within the exhibition halls of the Bike Expo 2016, there will be races to cater for all levels of ability and experience, from up-and-coming youth riders, to women, toddlers and seniors. The schedule of events will also feature corporate team competitions and folding bike races, so ‘there really will be something for everyone.’
The Rainbow Classic track, delivered in partnership with Rainbow Adventure Events, will also host the blue riband event of the two days’ racing: the Rainbow Classic. This race will see some of the UK’s top elite riders battle it out in front of spectators gathered at the expo.
Mandy Jones – former World Road Race Champion and a key person in the project said “When we were approached to design and organise the event, we realised it was an opportunity to create a completely new and memorable spectacle.
“The thought of a fully-supported and serviced indoor bike race with VIP area, team coaches, team cars and crowds of people just gives me butterflies in my stomach.”
The indoor track will include multiple manned crossing points; and full medical back-up will also be on hand. Big screens will show live coverage of all the races, complete with expert commentary, which will aim to ensure a great atmosphere and enable all visitors at the expo to get a view of the proceedings.
Event Manager, Colin Gale, said “The indoor track will allow us to welcome even more serious cyclists through the doors of Bike Expo, and we will be inviting all of the cycling clubs in the region to take part. Our aim is to make the Rainbow Classic a staple annual event for the cycling calendar.”
Bike Expo takes place at Manchester’s EventCity from 18-20 March 2016, alongside Run Expo, Swim Expo and Triathlon Expo. The four events under one roof are positioned as a one-stop-shop for all the latest products and clothing. There will also be a schedule of seminars and Q&As with some of the UK’s biggest sports stars.
With Bike Expo taking place alongside Run Expo, the Rainbow Classic Track will also feature a series of one-mile running challenges over the course of the three-day event.
