Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon gets set for 2016

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Blenheim Palace Triathlon

Following another successful event in 2015, that saw 7,000 participants swim, bike and run around the grounds of Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, ‘the UK’s second largest triathlon’ has a new name and a confirmed date for 2016.

For 2016 the Blenheim Palace Triathlon event has undergone a name change, due to a rebrand of the headline sponsor Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Moving forwards, the event will be known as the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon.

The event organisers at IMG Challenger World have confirmed that the weekend date for next year’s event is 4-5 June 2016.

For 2016, the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon will be held a week earlier than in previous years, with entries going on sale to the general public on 3 September 2015. The iconic Oxfordshire event is set in the spectacular grounds of Blenheim Palace, a World Heritage Site, which is renowned as being the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

Widely renowned as one of the most stunning triathlons in the UK, the event’s historic location and surroundings provide a backdrop for both amateur and elite triathletes, cheered on by scores of spectators who line the banks of the freshwater lake and along the iconic course.

Formerly Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, the 55-year-old charity chose Bloodwise as its new name after listening and responding to the needs of patients. The new name captures all the life-changing work now being done by the charity – its continuing world-class research, its expanding portfolio of patient support services, and its role speaking up on behalf of those affected by blood cancer.

Matt Lawley, Head of Sports Events at Bloodwise, said “Over the past three years the Blenheim Palace Triathlon has helped to raise awareness of our charity and over £1.5 million to beat blood cancers. Next year’s event will be an amazing opportunity to make people aware of our new name.

“We believe our new name will help us to raise even more money to beat blood cancer, and in doing so enable more patients from the Oxfordshire area and elsewhere to benefit from our support services. Bloodwise is short and easy to remember, which is vital when you’ve just been diagnosed with cancer.”

James Robinson, Managing Director of event organiser IMG Challenger World, added, “2015 was yet another great success for the event and we’re very much looking forward to next year already. Interest for 2016 has been very high following the event in June so we’re expecting another positive sign-up of returning triathletes as well as many fresh faces when entries go on sale later this month.”
