From 14-17 October 2015 the Calvia region of Mallorca will host the Challenge Paguera Mallorca, a triathlon event referred to by organisers as ‘the ultimate fitness challenge’.
Calvia, a municipality located in the south west of Mallorca, is a sporting region recognised as a world-class training hub for athletes including Olympic Gold Medallist Bradley Wiggins. The challenge is based around the coastal town of Paguera and is known as one of Europe’s most varied and demanding triathlon circuits.
The triathlon event held on 17 October includes a 1.9km swim between two coves, from Tora beach to La Romana beach, 90km bike ride and finishes with a 21km run through three of Calvia’s pristine beaches, historic villages such as Es Capdella and Calvia and up into the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011.
Targeted at triathletes, their friends and families, the four-day festival features sporting events including a race for children and Challenge Women, a women only race on 16 October. Celebrations include several after parties, music and arts fairs, culinary events and a cooking fair, a pasta party, a rock concert and a jazz concert, as well as extravagant opening and closing ceremonies culminating in firework displays and a prestigious awards ceremony.
Paguera is located just 20 minutes from Palma de Mallorca airport and offers some of the island’s best Spanish restaurants, a picturesque boulevard, beautiful beaches, quality hotels, walking and cycling trails in the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains and sporting facilities including running tracks, swimming pools, gymnasiums and the recently opened Triathlon Village Paguera, a facility specifically equipped for triathletes.
Challenge Paguera’s three night race tour package starts from £335 per person. Price includes three nights’ half board accommodation at the four star Hotel Villamil in Paguera, airport and event transfers, coached training sessions, access to a nutritionist, pre-arrival information and daily race updates.
