Triple Edge Events has unveiled the T3X Endurance Series, which is positioned as a first for the Australian triathlon circuit. Anchored around a 154K triathlon, the series opener will be held in Canberra, on 12-13 December 2015.
The T3X Endurance triathlon aims to ‘disrupt the extreme triathlon landscape in Australia’. The event takes the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Long Course distances, as used at world championships, with the proposed course consisting of a 4K swim, 120K bike and 30K run.
(Taking the 4K/120K/30K distance format, the 2014 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships were held in Weihai, China on 21 September 2014, while the 2015 event is slated to be held in Motala, Sweden. The 2016 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships, will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.)
According to the organisers of the T3X Endurance Series, this long distance format provides athletes with ‘the only International Triathlon Union regulation distance race in Australia.’
Champion professional triathlete Michelle Wu has meanwhile been announced as official ambassador for the T3X Endurance Series. Michelle Wu is a world class triathlete who recently won the Huskinsson Long Course Triathlon and has a string of professional achievements to her name.
Wu said that she is excited to be launching the first event of the T3X Endurance Series in her hometown of Canberra. “This event will provide competitors with a new edge to their competitive racing; the T3X Endurance Series is the perfect event for those looking to explore their limits,” she said.
“The courses for the race look fantastic and I’m really looking forward to the local crowds getting out on course to watch. Wearing the #1 race bib will mean there is plenty of pressure on me.”
The T3X Endurance Series will include six event categories –T3X Endurance Tri over 154K, Canberra Triathlon over 77K, Canberra Summer Marathon, 5K & 10K Open Water Swim and a Cycling Road Race.
Brad Allen, Managing Director of Triple Edge, said the event would bring direct economic benefit to Canberra from inbound tourism for the event, estimated at a minimum of AU$13-14 million.
The proposed courses will involve some of Canberra’s most famous landmarks including Lake Burley Griffin and its surroundings; and supporters and competitors alike will be able to take in many of the iconic sights of Canberra during all races in the series.
On the proposed hill climb behind Black Mountain, spectators will also ‘have an excellent vantage point to support competitors.’
