Follow the sun: new Palma de Mallorca marathon presented at ITB Berlin

The brand new Palma de Mallorca Marathon, part of Palma de Mallorca Council’s ‘Passion for Running’ project, has been officially presented this week at international travel trade show ITB Berlin.

The new name and concept brings to Palma de Mallorca, one of Europe’s favourite tourist destinations, a ‘high-quality event that is not only a marathon, but a weekend of running, tourism and leisure for athletes and their families’.

The marathon, half marathon and 10km event will be held on Sunday 18 October 2015 in Palma de Mallorca’s city centre. Replacing the Tui Marathon, the event unveiled a number of new features, including:

  • A new course, certified by the RFEA (Spanish Athletics Federation)
  • The City Trophy award, a special dinner for runners from the city with the most participants registered for the marathon
  • An after-race party for all finishers, held at the Megapark in Playa de Palma
  • The Palma Run, a children’s run held on Saturday 17 October, sponsored by Consell de Mallorca and Quely

Last year the Palma de Mallorca marathon attracted almost 10,000 runners. Organisers are hoping that the new format will attract even more participants this year.
