Garmin gets cutting edge with expanded Strava Live integration

Garmin gets an edge with expanded Strava integration

Garmin has confirmed a Strava compatibility software update for the Edge 510, Edge 810 and Edge 1000. This follows the unveiling of the Garmin Edge 520 in early July 2015 – the first bike computer that’s compatible with Strava Live Segments.

Expanding on the Edge 520, Garmin is now offering Strava integration for compatible Edge devices across the range. The Strava Live Segments feature is only available to Strava Premium athletes*.

Available from 25 August 2015, cyclists using an Edge 510, Edge 810 or 1000 can update their device and enjoy the benefits of Strava Live Segments – delivering real-time segment performance instantly displayed on their Garmin.

The update allows users to get instantaneous data – not just of time in the moment, but also how it compares to their PR, their friend’s, goal time or the current KOM or QOM. Results are calculated and displayed instantly when the segment ends.

To update a compatible Garmin device

  • The software update will start automatically when the user reconnects their device to Garmin Connect.
  • Once the update has completed, the user will be able to view the Strava Live Segments via Garmin Connect.

*For full usage of Strava Live Segments via a Garmin, Strava Premium costs £3.99 per month (£39.99 per year) and gives Strava athletes access to ‘the most innovative technology and engaging experience on the platform.’
